For over forty years I’ve been doing school and library presentations all over the United States (even Hawaii), and many other countries including Morocco, Spain, Portugal, and India. Everyone leaves the encounter with a greater enthusiasm for drawing, writing, reading, and the power of the imagination. And we have a good time doing it!
Each program is geared to the ages and interests of the audience. I draw pictures as I talk about the origins of drawing, where stories come from, how they are written and illustrated, how they are published and turned into books, and most of all, the awesome power of each person’s imagination. I demonstrate the magic of drawing and story-telling, and how each person tells a story in his or her own way and makes it a new story; how each person has stories that only he or she can tell and does drawings that only he or she can do.
During a full day’s visit, I’m available throughout the day for conversation and book signing. I shape programs for all audiences, from kindergarten through high school, as well as for parents, teachers, and librarians. I enjoy mixed groups of adults and children. Programs run from 30 minutes for the very young, up to a full hour, including questions. I work with audiences of any size. Small groups have the advantage of intimacy and individual rapport, but I find large groups can be just as effective.
